Michael J. Velletta
Mr. Velletta took his undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary in Business Administration and at the University of Victoria in Literature and Philosophy. Subsequently he went on to complete his Law Degree at the University of Victoria.
Prior to his law career, Mr. Velletta worked as an independent insurance adjuster in aircraft and the oil and gas industry, eventually managing a firm of adjusters. Initially Mr. Velletta practiced law at a large commercial law firm. At Velletta & Company, Mr. Velletta draws upon his diverse background, experience and interests to deliver legal services to corporation, small business and individuals. His experience in the insurance industry naturally evolved to representing victims of aviation accidents, automobile accidents (ICBC) and medical negligence.
With years of education and experience in business, Mr. Velletta enjoys working with entrepreneurs and business people launching new partnerships, corporations and joint ventures, and servicing the ongoing needs of a wide array of existing businesses. Finding practical and economical solutions that propel businesses forward is a challenge that Mr. Velletta welcomes. While most of his clients are in British Columbia, growing international trade results in transactions around the world. Many new clients are from Europe, the Pacific Rim and Latin America. Mr. Velletta focuses much of his attention on the global petroleum and natural resource industires, and is a member of the Association of International Petroleum Negotiations. With a keen interest in the arts Mr. Velletta delivers legal services to Canada's growing arts, film and entertainment community.
As a trial lawyer Mr. Velletta has effectively drawn upon his many interests and varied background to have successfully tried a wide range of cases at all levels of British Columbia courts.
Mr. Velletta currently sits on the board of governors of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia and the LINC Universities Foundation. As well, Mr. Velletta is on the Board of Directors for Textonic Consulting Ltd, a petroleum company. He is also on the Board of Directors and is General Counsel for Swiss-based, publicly traded, Manas Petroleum Corporation, with natural resources assets around the world. He is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Victoria Bar Association, the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, the International Institute of Business Analysis, and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. In his spare time Mr. Velletta enjoys international travelling, coaching his son's soccer team, and adventures in the great outdoors.
