Wayne Van Tassel
Wayne Van Tassel did his undergraduate studies at New College in Sarasota, Florida, where he read philosophy and religion. He earned a master’s degree in French at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, before he turned his attention to the study of law. He obtained a law degree, also from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and was called to the bar in 1995.
Mr. Van Tassel has been called to the bar in two American states, as well as the United States Districts Courts, and the United States Court of Appeal.
Mr. Van Tassel has a broad range of legal experience. He had the honour serving as a judicial law clerk to two judges. He worked with the Sokaogon Chippewa Community (Mole Lake, Wisconsin) in major litigation involving aboriginal hunting, fishing, and mineral rights. He has worked as a prosecutor and also has considerable criminal defence experience.
Mr. Van Tassel’s current practice focuses on family law, including such areas as divorce, child custody, parenting time, spousal and child support, property division, division of retirement benefits, the tax consequences of divorce, mediation and arbitration, annulments, paternity, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, change of domicile, grandparent's rights, domestic violence, and post-judgment proceedings. He also deals with wills and estates. As a bi-national person himself, Mr. Van Tassel has extensive knowledge of cross-border family and estate planning issues.
Originally from the United States, Mr. Van Tassel, has also lived, worked, and studied in Europe and Africa.
Mr. Van Tassel recognizes the emotional trauma and pain that family law issues can bring, and offers his clients the sensitivity and experience required to guide them through what can be the most difficult experience of their lives. Although he prefers cost effective, practical out of court resolutions, his considerable courtroom experience is an asset in matters that require court resolution.
